UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group F team guides

Surprise winners in 2004, Greece will play Romania, the team they defeated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup play-offs, as well as Finland, the Faroe Islands, Hungary and Northern Ireland.

Greece
Prior to 2004 Greece had appeared in only one UEFA European Championship, in 1980, but the wait proved sensationally worthwhile as Otto Rehhagel's men confounded expectations to lift the trophy in Portugal, a resolute defence and perfectly-executed game plan accounting for holders France, the Czech Republic and the hosts in the knockout rounds. Greece featured again in both 2008 and 2012, where they reached the quarter-finals.

Hungary
Inspired by Flórián Albert, Hungary finished third and fourth respectively in the UEFA European Championships of 1964 and 1972 but have not featured since and have failed to qualify for a major tournament since the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

Romania
Having often encountered tough draws when they have reached the finals, Romania have had limited EURO success. However, having qualified unbeaten, Emeric Ienei guided his team through a group containing Germany, Portugal and England to reach the last eight of UEFA EURO 2000.

Finland
It took Finland 19 UEFA European Championship qualifiers to record their first win, beating Greece 3-0 and following that up with a 2-1 triumph over Hungary at the start of their 1980 campaign.

Northern Ireland
Despite some memorable wins, Northern Ireland have never sent a team to the finals of the competition, coming closest in the 1984 qualifying series when they beat holders West Germany home and away – although they have appeared in three FIFA World Cups, the first in 1958 resulting in a quarter-final appearance and the second, in 1982, featuring a famous 1-0 win against hosts Spain.

Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands recorded the most famous result in their history in their very first competitive match, defeating Austria 1-0 in a EURO '92 qualifier – although just three of their 12 qualifying campaigns have yielded more than one win.
