Berti Vogts has resigned after six years as Azerbaijan coach.

Vogts announced his decision on Thursday in Zurich during a meeting with Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) chief executives. Azerbaijan have started their UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying campaign with three straight defeats in Group H, including a 6-0 loss in Croatia on 13 October.

AFFA president Rovnag Abdullayev thanked the 67-year-old for his contribution and offered him the possibility of a different role with the national team. Vogts, who won EURO '96 as Germany coach and has also led Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Kuwait, Scotland and Nigeria, intends to share his knowledge with the successor who will prepare Azerbaijan for their next qualifier against Norway on 16 November.
