Dick Advocaat has stepped down as Serbia coach after just four months and three completed matches in charge.

The 67-year-old Dutchman tendered his resignation after Friday's 3-1 home defeat by Denmark left the side with just one point from three games in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group I. He only took the reins in July, but admits he was at a loss about how to halt the slide.

"It was a very hard decision, but I believe that we've had enough," he said. "I take all the responsability on me. When I came, I was confident we could be succesful, but I cannot solve the problems we had [against Denmark]. I wish Serbia all the best and I had a nice time here; but, unfortunately, without any results."

Serbia face fellow strugglers Greece in a friendly on Tuesday.
