Armenia Under-21 coach Sargis Hovsepyan has accepted the challenge of leading the senior national team through the remainder of UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying.

The 42-year-old, who is also coach of Armenian Premier League leaders FC Pyunik, steps in after Bernard Challandes resigned on 29 March following a 2-1 defeat in Albania that left Armenia bottom of Group I with only one point from four matches.

Capped a record 131 times by Armenia, former FC Zenit defender Hovsepyan has a tough first task as coach when Portugal visit on 13 June.
