UEFA.com: How much are you looking forward to next summer's UEFA EURO 2016 finals in France?

Ruud Gullit: I think the European Championship is considered the strongest [tournament] in the world because there are only strong teams there. I've been at a World Cup in France before, so I know a little about what the impact is there. I think the fact they can rebuild the stadiums also gives France a big boost, because there are new facilities so it is better for families; it's nicer to come with your boy or daughter to the game.

UEFA.com: What do you expect from the Netherlands?

Gullit: We still have to qualify! You can be third and still qualify, but I think they need to do a lot of things differently in the rest of qualifying. The quality is there, but you also need to defend. You cannot always attack, attack, attack!

Highlights: Netherlands 1-1 Turkey

UEFA.com: It is a transitional period for the Netherlands with a new coach …

Gullit: Yes, a new generation. One problem in Holland is that the best players go abroad, so we have young kids in the domestic clubs who have to become leaders. This is almost impossible as there is nobody to guide them.

UEFA.com: France also have a young squad – what do you expect from them at home next summer?

Gullit: I don't know. I saw them play against Brazil and I was not impressed. I think they could have done better – they showed too much respect. They need to take the initiative more often and try to play football. They have the ability.

UEFA.com: Do you think there are any favourites for the EURO?

Gullit: Not yet – so much can happen in a year. France will be playing with the pressure of being at home, which is bound to be tough. I think it's going to be a great tournament played in nice stadiums with a good atmosphere. I'm looking forward to it.
