There is bad news for Belgum ahead of their decisive qualifiers in Andorra and at home to Israel next month with the news that Thibaut Courtois is set to miss those matches after suffering a knee injury in Chelsea training. José Mourinho said: "Courtois was injured in training, he needs surgery on his right knee and he will be out for quite a long time."
Courtois has been ever-present in Belgium's eight Group B fixtures, conceding only three goals. Belgium trail leaders Wales by a point but crucially are four ahead of Israel, meaning victory in Andorra would assure qualification with a fixture to spare.
Marc Wilmots, Belgium coach
[Christian] Benteke is doing fine and there has been some good work done with the medics so he is 100% OK. All the other players are fine too. There will not be many changes in terms of tactics. The tactics will be adjusted according to the needs of the game. As far as set pieces go, we've improved and you can already see that our corners are not over-stretched like they were in Brazil. I believe we will qualify with 21 or 22 points.
We expect a tough game against Cyprus. They have changed five players since we last played them in Brussels. We need to be cautious and stay focused. This competition has shown that there surprises in store and all we need to do is look at what happened to the Netherlands and Italy recently.
