Cyprus striker Nestor Mytides – scorer of all three goals in Cyprus’ 3-1 win in Andorra in June – is adamant his side will not be playing defensively against Wales and Belgium over the next week despite the arrival of Group B’s top two in Nicosia.
“The game against Wales is very important. Whatever the difficulties, our aim is to win. We will always aim to win because that is the only way to look forward. We can chase the dream and we will do whatever we can for the national side,” said the 24-year-old. “We will follow the instructions of our manager while we also need to be focused, disciplined and to seize what opportunities we can from this game.”
Cyprus coach Charalampos Christodoulou has recalled veteran midfielder Constantinos Charalambides (pictured) for Thursday's Group B assignment at home against Wales and the islander's meeting with Belgium three days later. The fourth-placed side in the section must nonetheless make do without injured duo George Efrem and Giorgos Merkis, while French-born midfielder Vincent Laban misses the Wales game through suspension and Dimitris Christofi will undergo late fitness tests.
