Mykhailo Fomenko, Ukraine coach
The game ended well for us, although it wasn't easy. But even if Luxembourg had scored in the first half, the score would have been 3-1. Special thanks to all my players, because they found enough strength and character for this game. We knew that it would be hard.
Luxembourg's players were trying to give their coach a great birthday present. That's why I want to thank my team, who played till the very end despite not having the same reason to be motivated. Thanks as well to our fans: we felt and heard their great support.
Ukraine coach Mykhailo Fomenko wants his side to show now mercy to Luxemborg in Lviv tonight. "We spoke to our players seriously as we noticed thay were thinking about the holidays," he said. "We made some mistakes [in 2-1 friendly against Georgia on Monday] because of that. But I see they understood everything and I hope they will show their best in the upcoming match against Luxembourg. Their coach [Luc Holtz] celebrates his birthday on the day of the match and players will want to make him a present. But we treat every game as a final now."
