A third straight win – this time in Kazakhstan - has had the newspapers in the Czech Republic purring. "This team is marching towards qualification with confidence," says Dnes. "Inconceivable!" is the headline of Blesk, which celebrates the achievements of "Bořek the Skilful" (aka, Bořek Dočkal), who has scored a goal in each of their qualifiers. "A new hero was born on Monday – a man who can fix anything," it explains, Bořek the Skilful being a pun on the Czech name for children's cartoon character Bob the Builder. Sport adds: "An artificial pitch, a stadium with a roof, Tomáš Rosický's injury – no, nothing could slow the Czech express. Petr Čech and friends have exceeded the most optimistic expectations."
Czech Republic coach Pavel Vrba could be on the verge of winning an unusual wager, having bet the chief maltster at the Plzeň brewery that his team would return from their round trip to Turkey and Kazakhstan with at least four points. If Vrba wins, all adult fans will get a free beer at the next home qualifier, against Iceland in Plzen. If he does not, the 50-year-old will have to come to the brewery and help to brew a special beer. "I hesitated for a while as I did not want to do anything silly, but I believe that we can win this bet and give the fans something to celebrate," Vrba said. "A thousand beers is a quite a wager." He needs only a draw in Astana to win the bet.
