FYR Macedonia 0-0 Australia
FYR Macedonia ended a run of three successive defeats in Skopje. Coach Boshko Djurovski made five changes to the team that lost 2-1 to Belarus on Friday but still the home side struggled to create significant opportunities.
The visitors, who drew 2-2 with world champions Germany last week, were the better team and only goalkeepers Martin Bogatinov (first half) and Kristijan Naumovski (second) kept them at bay.
Boshko Djurovski, Macedonia coach:
Tonight we started brightly, perhaps in the first 30 minutes we were the better team. However, we had a mental letdown and Belarus deserved the victory. I think they were much better in the duel and they were calmer than us. You could tell they are more experienced and that's why they deserved the victory. Artim Polozani's injury really disrupted us. He won many duels and was aggressive in the 20 minutes he played. I’m satisfied with [goalkeeper] Tome Pacovski and Feran Hasani as well, to whom I said: "well done lad, that's how one has to play for the national team".
The rest of the players performed poorly. But we continue moving on. Every defeat hurts. This one came in a bad moment. Nothing is lost. Why can't we be victorious in Belarus? Why can’t we win against Luxemburg away?
