Minute By Minute

  • End Time
    The final whistle is blown.
An astonishing end to a remarkable game. Having needed a 92nd-minute goal to beat Switzerland last time out, Turkey left it late once again. Čech's error presented Nihat with an equaliser with three minutes left and, as the crowd settled down for the prospect of penalties, the Villarreal CF man fired in a goal to win any game. The Czechs go home while Turkey go through to the quarter-finals though they will be without the suspended Volkan and Mehmet Aurélio.
  • 90+5
Hamit Altıntop (Turkey) takes the free-kick.
  • Yellow Card
    90+5
Baroš (Czech Republic) is shown a yellow card.

  • Red Card
    90+2
Volkan Demirel (Turkey) is shown the red card.
Volkan is sent off after sending Koller crashing to the ground, the danger seemingly over. With all Turkey's substitutes use, Tuncay is handed the goalkeeper's jersey. Remarkable scenes.

Čech (Czech Republic) makes a save.
  • 90+2
Tuncay Şanlı (Turkey) has an effort on goal.
  • 90
Jarolím (Czech Republic) takes the free-kick.
  • Goal
    89
    Nihat Kahveci (Turkey) scores!
A goal to win any game but, having been staring elimination squarely in the face two minutes ago, this is extra special as Nihat latches on to Hamit Altıntop's through-ball and arcs it beautifully into the top corner off the underside of the bar.
  • Goal
    87
    Nihat Kahveci (Turkey) scores!
The rarest of mistakes from Čech and he is duly punished. Hamit Altıntop's cross to the penalty spot appeared harmless but the Chelsea FC goalkeeper fumbled and Nihat was on hand to stroke the ball home.
  • 85
Rozehnal (Czech Republic) takes the free-kick.
  • Substitution
    84
Vlček (in) - Sionko (out) (Czech Republic)

  • 82
Servet Çetin (Turkey) misses the target.
For the third time Servet is presented with a header in the Czech penalty area and this is the best of the lot. Little more than two metres from goal he rises to meet a deep cross but fails to get enough of it. The Czech Republic are pinned into their own half.
  • 81
Nihat Kahveci (Turkey) delivers the corner.
  • 81

  • 80

  • Goal
    75
    Arda Turan (Turkey) scores!
The comeback is on as Hamit Altıntop cuts in from the right. The winger's cross somehow evades everyone in a crowded box before reaching Arda in space and the 21-year-old rifles in at Čech's near post.
  • 74
Plašil (Czech Republic) takes the free-kick.
  • Yellow Card

  • 71

Polák rattles the upright as hits another Sionko cross first time. He is grounded when the ball rebounds his way and scrambles to his feet to head it goalwards but Volkan too recovers and Turkey keep hopes alive.

  • 64
Čech (Czech Republic) makes a save.
  • 64
Kazım Kazım (Turkey) has an effort on goal.
The Turkey substitute sends a low ball skidding goalwards but, in truth, even the aging Czech supporters sporting Petr Čech headwear in the stands would have been fairly untroubled there.
  • Substitution
    63
Emre Aşık (in) - Emre Güngör (out) (Turkey)
  • Yellow Card
    62
    Arda Turan (Turkey) is booked.
Arda Turan becomes the third Turkey player to enter the book.
  • Goal
    62
    Plašil (Czech Republic) scores!
Turkey did not heed the warning moments earlier as the waspish Libor Sionko leads a counterattack on the flank. The right winger crosses early, the ball sailing over Koller but into the path of Jaroslav Plašil who does brilliantly to poke in a half-volley on the run.
  • 62
    Tuncay Şanlı (Turkey) fouls.
  • 61

  • 57
Nihat Kahveci (Turkey) delivers the corner.
What a difference 15 minutes makes. Before the interval it was all the Czech Republic but now Brückner's team are struggling even to escape their own half. Sabri has made a big difference and forces a corner with a low cross that David Rozehnal reflects wide.
  • 54
Hamit Altıntop (Turkey) takes the free-kick.
  • 54
Jankulovski (Czech Republic) gives away a free-kick for a challenge on Sabri Sarıoğlu (Turkey).
  • 53
Čech (Czech Republic) makes a save.

  • 53
Jarolím (Czech Republic) gives away a free-kick for a challenge on Hamit Altıntop (Turkey).
  • 52
Nihat Kahveci (Turkey) delivers the corner.
The Czech Republic have never lost a competitive game that Koller has scored in, but Turkey have started this second half determined to reverse that trend. Here Nihat curls in a second successive corner that is well cleared by the stout Czech defence.

  • 45+1
Koller (Czech Republic) is adjudged to be in an offside position.
  • 44
Koller (Czech Republic) misses the target.
The 35-year-old is growing in confidence but he can probably count on one hand how many times he has scored with a first-time volley from the edge of the box. He does not trouble his digits here, though some on the second tier of the stands behind the goal are forced to take evasive action.
  • 42
Koller (Czech Republic) misses the target.
Koller is not used to being dropped – as he was against Portugal last time out – but he has bounced back in some fashion. Turkey are struggling to deal with him and here an effort goes just over.
  • 42
Jankulovski (Czech Republic) takes the free-kick.
  • 41
Servet Çetin (Turkey) gives away a free-kick for a challenge on Koller (Czech Republic).
  • 39
Servet Çetin (Turkey) misses the target.
Turkey's only route to goal at the moment appears to be through dead-ball situations and so it proves again as – not for the first time – Servet gets his head to a free-kick.
  • 39
Nihat Kahveci (Turkey) takes the free-kick.
  • Substitution
    39
Jarolím (in) - Matějovský (out) (Czech Republic)
Matějovský is forced off on a stretcher after being caught late and so it is a like-for-like replacement, with David Jarolím coming on to win his 19th cap.
  • 37
Plašil (Czech Republic) gives away a free-kick for a challenge on Tuncay Şanlı (Turkey).

  • Goal
    34
    Koller (Czech Republic) scores!
The veteran striker gives the Czech Republic a deserved lead with his 55th goal in 90 international appearances. Zdeněk Grygera breaks down the right flank and delivers a cross towards the towering striker and Koller does the rest, leaping highest to guide it into the far corner.
  • 33
Hamit Altıntop (Turkey) takes the free-kick.
  • 31
Volkan Demirel (Turkey) takes the free-kick.
  • 31
Čech (Czech Republic) makes a save.
  • 31
Servet Çetin (Turkey) has an effort on goal.
Servet has seen a lot of the ball in the opening half-hour, whether challenging Koller for a high ball, making a tackle or looking for a pass out of defence as Sionko harries him. The Galatasaray AS man has more joy here, however, rising to head a left-wing corner goalwards before Čech intervenes.
  • 30
Nihat Kahveci (Turkey) delivers the corner.
  • 25
Sionko (Czech Republic) misses the target.
The Czech No7 is a lively presence on the right flank and gives Turkey's sizeable support a scare as he cuts inside Arda Turan and fires a left-footed effort narrowly over from the edge of the penalty area.

  • 17
Volkan Demirel (Turkey) makes a save.
  • 17
Matějovský (Czech Republic) has an effort on goal.
The first meaningful save of the night as Volkan gets his body behind a typically sweetly-struck effort from Marek Matějovský.
  • 17
Tuncay Şanlı (Turkey) misses the target.
Turkey have not been able to gain a foothold but things almost open up for Tuncay Şanlı as the Middlesbrough FC man takes advantage of some space in midfield and fires a low, stinging shot just past Petr Čech's left upright. The goalkeeper always had it covered though.
  • 14
Plašil (Czech Republic) takes the free-kick.

Terim's side commit another free-kick and yet again it is for a foul on Koller.
  • 11
Koller (Czech Republic) misses the target.
Koller has fond memories of Turkey having struck against them in a 4-0 friendly win over them in 2003. He could perhaps have added another here as Jankulovski finds him with an arcing free-kick but the Czech No9 can not keep his header down.
  • 11
Jankulovski (Czech Republic) takes the free-kick.
  • Yellow Card

    Mehmet Topal (Turkey) is booked.
This is a fractious opening, with a series of fouls ruining the flow. Mehmet Topal commits the worst one yet, lunging to halt Jan Polák's run in midfield and referee Peter Fröjdfeldt takes immediate action, bringing out his notebook.

Sionko (Czech Republic) misses the target.
Marek Jankulovski swings a free-kick towards two waiting players at the far post but, try as he might, Libor Sionko can only just get his head on it and the ball drops harmlessly out of play. The Czechs are taking the game to Turkey.
