Over 30,000 people were present at the opening ceremony for the renovated Municipal Stadium Poznan – the first of four Polish venues for UEFA EURO 2012 to be completed.

The highlight of the ceremony was a concert by British rock star Sting backed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Other performers included Polish band Indios Bravos and singer Anna Maria Jopek.

"Sting played magnificently," said Ryszard Grobelny, mayor of Poznan. "We showed that the stadium can be also a place for exciting cultural events."

With more than 43,000 seats, the Municipal Stadium Poznan fulfils all UEFA requirements and boasts two 116m² screens, among the biggest in Poland, and a state-of-the-art sound system. It will be home to KS Warta Poznań and KKS Lech Poznań, who will play the stadium's first match when they welcome FC Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League on 30 September.
