Mirko Vučinić struck to keep up Montenegro's superb debut UEFA European Championship campaign with a third straight Group G win.
Having defeated Wales and Bulgaria 1-0 last month, Montenegro repeated the trick thanks to Vučinić's strike with 22 minutes remaining. Switzerland remain without a point while Montenegro are three clear ahead of their biggest test yet in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying, in England on Tuesday.
Vučinić, who scored to defeat Wales here in Podgorica last month, came close on 19 minutes, forcing a Marco Wölfli save from the edge of the box. Vučinić then nearly turned provider when his cross found Branko Bošković, whose shot was deflected over by Stéphane Grichting. A minute before the break Alexander Frei pounced on a loose ball and entered the Montenegro box only for goalkeeper Mladen Božović to brilliantly save the Switzerland captain's low shot with his legs. The whistle had still not gone when Božović denied Gokhan Inler from distance.
Midway through the second half Zlatko Kranjčar's side were in front as Vučinić exchanged passes with Mitar Novaković before beating Wölfli from a tight angle. Switzerland now pushed for an equaliser but the brilliant Božović was again in the right place to stop a Eren Derdiyok free-kick. Frei then shot straight at the goalkeeper in the box and with two minutes left the unmarked Tranquillo Barnetta headed wide from a Hakan Yakan corner. Montenegro now take their perfect record to Wembley while Ottmar Hitzfeld's Swiss, with two defeats so far, look to get off the mark against Wales in Basel.
