A tenacious defensive performance earned Liechtenstein a point in their 50th UEFA European Championship fixture and 100th competitive international.

Liechtenstein, who scored two own goals in losing 4-0 in Russia last month, threatened first when Seyhan Yildiz headed Sandro Wieser's cross over. Soon Montenegro took control, though, Peter Jehle doing well to deny Simon Vukčević.

Marko Simić and Žarko Tomašević both put headers wide as Montenegro continued to have the better of the play. Captain Stevan Jovetić, back for Montenegro after injury kept him out of the opening 2-0 Group G win against Moldova, forced another Jehle save with a shot on the turn, while Dejan Damjanović's effort was blocked by Ivan Quintans.

Still Montenegro attacked and Jehle brilliantly tipped a Damjanović header onto the woodwork, the long-serving goalkeeper using all his experience to keep Liechtenstein level at the break. Andreas Christen came on for Wieser moments before half-time while Montenegro introduced Mirko Vučinić for the second period.

After Vladimir Jovović had gone close, Jehle picked up a knock just past the hour and was replaced by Cengiz Biçer. However, Biçer was soon emulating Jehle, twice superbly repelling Vučinić from point-blank range. Žarko Tomašević also had a shot stopped in the last minute as time ran out for Montenegro.
