Hungary v Faroe Islands background

Hungary still have a long shot at qualifying directly for UEFA EURO 2016 as one of the top sides in Group F as they take on a resilient Faroe Islands side.

Three points adrift of second spot in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group F, Hungary could do with a win against the Faroe Islands to keep their campaign afloat.

• Third-placed Hungary's best bet of qualifying may well be through the play-offs. They have a head-to-head advantage in the event that they finish level on points with neighbours Romania, who are currently second.

Previous meetings
• In what was the nations' first meeting, Ádám Szalai's 21st-minute goal earned Hungary a 1-0 victory in the Group F encounter in Torshavn last October, Faroe Islands No1 Gunnar Nielsen catching the eye with a string of saves.

Form guide
• Hungary have picked up eight of their 13 Group F points away from home. Their home record reads W1 D2 L1, with only two goals scored. Their last two home qualifiers ended goalless.

• The fifth-placed Faroes' 1-0 triumph in Greece earlier in the campaign was their first competitive away success in 35 outings (after 33 defeats and one draw) since a 2-0 win in Luxembourg on 24 March 2001.

• The Faroes have been unusually durable on the road in this qualification programme, scoring one and conceding just four in four games so far. They are on target to improve on their best ever away qualifying campaign, which was for UEFA EURO 2000, when they shipped only ten goals in five away matches – an average of two a game.

Disciplinary
• Leandro serves a one-match ban against the Faroe Islands; Roland Juhász and Balázs Dzsudzsák will incur a suspension with their next yellow cards.

• Fródi Benjaminsen, Hallur Hansson and Brandur Olsen serve one-match bans against Hungary; Jónas Tór Næs will incur a suspension with his next yellow card.

Trivia and links
• All five of the Faroes' UEFA age-group competition meetings with Hungary have ended in defeat, most recently a 3-1 reverse in Portugal in a November 2011 UEFA European Under-19 Championship tie.

• The nations' clubs have met in eight UEFA competition fixtures, with the Faroese sides' record reading W0 D1 L7. That lone draw came in the most recent duel, KÍ Klaksvík holding Újpest 2-2 in Toftir before losing 1-0 in the return leg in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup qualifying round.
