Jonjo Shelvey is one of several player recalled by England manager Roy Hodgson for his side's Group E qualifiers in San Marino on Saturday and at home to Switzerland three days later. Capped once by England in 2012, the Swansea midfielder has enjoyed an excellent start to the Premier League campaign and finds himself back in a squad that also features returnees Jack Butland, Luke Shaw, Michael Carrick and Harry Kane.
"Jonjo Shelvey gets another chance as he has been very impressive since the start of the season," said Hodgson, whose team have won all six games so far on the road to France 2016. He nevertheless has to make do without injured Arsenal pair Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck, with fitness issues also ruling out Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones.
Wayne Rooney, England captain
It's great to score the winner but it was a great team performance. We came out on the front foot for the second half and Jack Wilshere scored two great goals. I have formed a good partnership with Jack and hopefully he stays injury free for us now. We have made a lot of progress since the World Cup.
