Host city Kyiv has unveiled its official logo for UEFA EURO 2012 and its own tournament flowerbed, bearing the event's distinctive bloom emblem, as Poland and Ukraine mark two years to go until the finals kick off on 8 June 2012.
Political dignitaries led by Ukraine's deputy prime minister Borys Kolesnikov witnessed the unveiling of the flowerbed, set in the heart of Kyiv, close to the Golden Gate. Another of the Ukrainian capital's iconic sites, a monument depicting a boat carrying the four legendary city founders – three brothers Kyj, Schek, Khoryv and their sister Lybid – was used as a basis for the civic UEFA EURO 2012 logo.
The city's logo will be displayed at another flowerbed near the Golden Gate as part of the floral composition, with a flower clock to countdown to the start of the tournament. "Kyiv has a huge football tradition," said Kolesnikov. "This city gave the world two great players, namely European footballers of the year Oleg Blokhin and Andriy Shevchenko. And I have no doubts that in two years we will stage a great European Championship, but we still have a lot to do."
