Amica through despite home loss

KS Amica Wronki 1-2 Servette FC (Agg: 4-4, Amica win on away goals) Servette unlucky.

Poland's KS Amica Wronki survived a home 2-1 defeat by Swiss team Servette FC to move into the UEFA Cup second round on away goals after a 4-4 aggregate score.

First leg crucial
Amica had won the first leg 3-2, and they were grateful for that result as their visitors showed every intent of stealing this tie.

Early chances
The home side did have several early chances. but Grzegorz Król wasted the best of them on 18 minutes when he chose to round Servette keeper Marco Pascolo rather than shooting, and lost sight of goal.

Frei inspirational
And they paid when the inspirational Alexander Frei put Servette ahead on 35 minutes, when he shot in from 12 metres.

Burkhardt on target
However, Amica took an hour to score in Geneva, and they again registered on the 60-minute mark Marek Zienczuk's cross from the right found Marcin Burkhardt, who finished from close range.

Visitors survive
Servette did not fall away this time, although they nearly conceded a second when substitute Remigiusz Sobocinski was unable to get on the end of Król's pass in front of goal, moments after losing the ball himself.

Hope for Servette
And the visitors gave themselves hope in the 88th minute, levelling the aggregate score when Frei converted a free-kick from the edge of the Amica box.

Amica hold on
Christoph Jacquet and substitute Dmitry Mitchkov Servette both then came close to clinching the game for Servette - the latter denied by a brilliant Grzegorz Szamotulski.save - but Amica held on.

'We lost the tie at home'
Servette coach Roberto Morinini conceded after the game: "I'd like to complement Amica. They played well and I must admit we lost the tie at home."

Need for improvement
Amica coach Miroslaw Jablonski believed his side should have wrapped up the tie long before the end. "We had to pay for wasting three early chances," he said. "We must improve if we want to go further in the UEFA Cup."
