PSG profit from perfect start

Two early goals helped Paris Saint-Germain FC maintain their fine start to UEFA Europa League Group J as they eased to the top of the section with a 2-0 victory against FC Karpaty Lviv in the French capital.

Christophe Jallet's fiercely-struck drive put the hosts ahead after four minutes at the Parc des Princes, and Nenê's second goal in two games 16 minutes later ensured PSG sustained the momentum built by their opening win at Sevilla FC.

Unbeaten in their last ten home games in European competition, it was little wonder PSG started confidently, and that self-belief was soon fuelled further when full-back Jallet rocketed a wonderful long-range strike beyond Andriy Tlumak.

The early setback did little to deter the visitors, and beaten by the odd goal in seven in their maiden group-stage outing, Karpaty again showed their attacking bent with Serhiy Kuznetsov worrying the home defence and the impressive Igor Khudobyak prompting promisingly.

However, the defensive frailties that led to Karpaty's last-gasp defeat by Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 1 resurfaced, and when Stéphane Sessegnon's incisive pass was only half cleared, Nenê fired in crisply from the edge of the box.

Karpaty should have reduced the deficit before the break when Sergei Zenjov twice failed to capitalise on weak clearances from Zoumana Camara, and Mevlüt Erdinç almost added to the visitors' concerns when he cleverly turned a shot back across the face of Tlumak's goal only to see the ball fly wide of the far post.

The visitors' response was timid, and though Apoula Édel had to move smartly to gather Oleg Golodyuk's drive, PSG looked the most likely to add to the scoreline. Erdinç came closest, lunging opportunistically only to direct the ball straight at Tlumak, but Antoine Kombouaré's men had already done enough to ensure they will head into their next encounter in Dortmund on 21 October with confidence.
