National make no mistake

FC National Bucharesti 3-0 SC Heerenveen Romanians take advantage of slack defending.

FC National Bucuresti 3-0 SC Heerenveen
FC National Bucuresti made no mistake as they soundly beat Dutch visitors SC Heerenveen to put one foot into the UEFA Cup second round.

Driving seat
The Romanians put themselves in the driving seat with two goals in the first half, and were seldom troubled by a Heerenveen team that failed to produce anything near top form in a lucklustre performance.

Early lead
It took just seven minutes for National to get their noses in front. A corner from the left-hand side by Gheorghe-Gabrie Caramarin was nodded in by Tiberiu Curt with the visiting rearguard unable to react.

Penalty extends lead
It was 2-0 after 28 minutes. A dangerous cross from the left was inexplicably handled in the area by Heerenveen defender Tieme Klompe, and Sabin Ilie rapped home the penalty.

Third on the hour
A third goal arrived on the hour, Adrian Olah racing through to make no mistake, and although the Dutchmen raised their game slightly in the closing stages, Heerenveen were a well-beaten side by the end.

Played badly
"We played badly, and National won all of the one-on-ones, which helped them considerably in their efforts to win," said a disappointed Heerenveen coach Foppe de Haan after the game.
