City sign Captain America

United States captain Claudio Reyna has left Sunderland AFC for Manchester City FC in a €3.6m deal.

Three-year contract
The 30-year-old midfield player passed a medical in Manchester today and has signed a three-year contract. "I hope to get him registered by Monday, so that he will be able to play in the the UEFA Cup," said manager Kevin Keegan, whose side were drawn against KSC Lokeren OV of Belgium in today's first-round draw in Monaco.

'Wealth of experience'
Keegan continued: "Reyna gives me options in several positions, he can play right-back or in midfield and he brings with him a wealth of experience. He will prove an invaluable influence for our younger players as well."

Fine World Cup
Reyna joined Sunderland from Rangers FC for €6m in December 2001, excelling the following summer as the US reached the quarter-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. After damaging knee ligaments in a game against Bolton Wanderers FC last October, though, he rarely featured as Sunderland slipped out of the Premiership.
