Austria plump for Papac

Bosnia-Herzegovina international Sasa Papac has joined UEFA Cup qualifiers FK Austria Wien on loan.

Bosnia-Herzegovina international Sasa Papac has joined UEFA Cup qualifiers FK Austria Wien on loan for next season.

Reliable defender
The 24-year-old left-back, who has ten caps for Bosnia-Herzegovina, has established himself as one of the Austrian Bundesliga's most reliable defenders since leaving Bosnia-Herzegovnian Premier League side NK Široki Brijeg to join FC Kärnten in 2001. However, Kärnten were relegated last season after finishing bottom of the Bundesliga, precipitating his loan to Austria, where he is looking to secure a permanent move.

Trial period
"If he plays well and finds some good form, we will buy the player and hand him a two-year contract," Austria's director of sport Günter Kronsteiner said. Papac becomes the third new signing at the Franz-Horr stadium this summer following the arrival of SV Pasching's Markus Kiesenebner and Libor Sionko from Austrian double winners Grazer AK.
