Parma help themselves to Maccarone

Reunited with Baldini
Acquired from Empoli FC for €12m two years ago, Maccarone had an electric start to his Premiership career, scoring four goals in his first month, but never fully settled in England. At Parma the 24-year-old will be reunited with his old Empoli coach, Silvio Baldini. "He is a fantastic coach," Maccarone said. "He makes footballers love their work."

Duo arrive
The Italian club have also recruited 24-year-old Australian midfielder Vincenzo Grella from Empoli and 20-year-old Romanian forward Ianis Zicu on loan from FC Internazionale. Parma's UEFA Cup campaign opens at home to first-round opponents NK Maribor on 16 September with the return in Slovenia a fortnight later.
