New deal for Inzaghi

S.S. Lazio striker Simone Inzaghi has signed a new five-year contract ahead of the visit to FC Metalurh Donetsk.

Italian international Simone Inzaghi has given S.S. Lazio a welcome boost ahead of the start of their UEFA Cup campaign by committing himself to the club for the next five years.

Contract extension
The 28-year-old, capped three times by his country, has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Olimpico stadium until 2009. "I am very happy with the new agreement," said the former Piacenza FC player. "It’s the solution I was hoping for. I thank president [Claudio] Lotito for giving me the chance to wear the Lazio shirt for many more years." Inzaghi's previous contract was due to expire in summer 2005.

New campaign
Lazio begin their UEFA Cup campaign when they travel to Ukranian side FC Metalurh Donetsk for the first leg of their first-round match tomorrow night. The return leg will be in Rome in a fortnight's time.
