Zenga hopes for happy homecoming

Group B: FC Steaua Bucuresti's Italian coach Walter Zenga is targeting victory at Parma FC.

Curt out
Zenga is still without defender Tiberiu Curt for the trip to his homeland, but goalkeeper Vasili Khomutovski is back in training after being injured in Belarus's 4-3 defeat in Italy, although Martin Tudor could continue between the posts. "It's a special moment for me," said Zenga, whose team defeated Belgium's R. Standard de Liège 2-0 two weeks ago. "But the most important challenge is for Steaua."

Gilardino doubt
Parma coach Silvio Baldini should persist with the squad rotation policy deployed for the 2-0 defeat at Athletic Club Bilbao on Matchday 1, with Alberto Gilardino, who suffered a slight ankle injury in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Atalanta BC, unlikely to be risked. Massimo Maccarone has recovered from a knee problem but should be among the substitutes, with Francesco Ruopolo expected to start in attack.

Tiko return
Athletic travel to Besiktas JK with midfield playmaker Tiko available again although the in-form Carlos Gurpegui is suspended. Left-back Asier Del Horno has been struggling with a muscle injury, so Javier Casas could deputise.

'Great team'
"Besiktas are one of the great Turkish teams and always aspire to be at the top," said Athletic coach Ernesto Valverde. "They are very strong at the moment, which is no surprise to us. This will be their first game in the group and for that reason they will be taking it seriously."

'Skilful players'
Besiktas's Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque was similarly circumspect, saying: "Athletic are tough opponents, a consistent team who have skilful players. Any match can be won or lost. What's important is whether you believe in your victory." The hosts are still without Brazilian defender Ronaldo Guiaro with a broken arm.
