Partizan continue scoring spree

Group E: Leading pair Middlesbrough FC and FK Partizan maintained their fine domestic starts.

Middlesbrough
Fresh from victory against Lazio, Middlesbrough held on to fifth place in the English Premiership with a 1-1 home draw against fellow high-fliers Bolton Wanderers FC on Sunday. Henrik Pedersen's 72nd-minute goal looked to have given Bolton the points, but not long after visiting goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen was sent off, George Boateng levelled the scores in a frantic finale. Still sidelined for the rest of the UEFA Cup group stage are Malcolm Christie and Stuart Parnaby, both with leg fractures, while Gaizka Mendieta is out for the season with cruciate ligament damage. However, Szilárd Nemeth and Ugo Ehiogu hope to return soon from hip and calf injuries respectively.

Partizan
Partizan remained unbeaten and three points clear at the top of Serbia and Montenegro's First Federal League after defeating Belgrade rivals FK Zemun 5-0. The goals came from 19-year-old striker Nikola Grubješic, in for the rested Pierre Boya, and midfield quartet Dragan Ciric, captain Saša Ilic - a penalty - Branimir Petrovic and Albert Nadj, who played after recovering from the knee injury which kept him out of the 4-0 success against Egaleo. Defender Dragoljub Jeremic is still sidelined through injury.

Villarreal
Having sat out Matchday 2, Villarreal returned to action with a 3-0 Primera División victory against CA Osasuna to move up to ninth. Juan Román Riquelme scored twice, either side of a Gonzalo Rodríguez effort. Striker José Mari Romero overcame a calf muscle injury and started against Osasuna as did defender Armando Sá, who had been experiencing a groin complaint. In the club casualty room, Roger García and Javi Calleja are still out of contention but left-back Rodolfo Arruabarrena is expected back in training this week.

Lazio
Lazio had hopes of their fourth Serie A win of the season when they took the lead against AC Siena early in the second half through Fernando Couto, but Daniele Portanova's goal ensured a 1-1 draw that left them in tenth place. The Rome side were without several key players as Giuliano Giannichedda suffered a thigh injury on the eve of the game, joining Angelo Peruzzi, Fabio Liverani, Luciano Zauri, Emanuele Filippini, Sebastiano Siviglia, Roberto Muzzi and Paolo Negro on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Matteo Sereni, César and Simone Inzaghi are back to full fitness.

Egaleo
Having lost their second group game on Matchday 3, Egaleo won 1-0 in Corfu against Kerkira FC on Sunday to keep up their unbeaten start to the Hellenic National League season, and move up to fifth. Georgios Barkoglou, who scored on the half-hour, was sent off 31 minutes from time for a second bookable offence for Egaleo, whose Austrian striker Günter Friesenbichler will find out on Wednesday whether he needs surgery after persistent pain in his right foot.
