Götz gets Hertha extension

UEFA Cup contenders Hertha BSC Berlin have extended their contract with 43-year-old coach Falko Götz until the summer of 2008.

Deal expiring
The 43-year-old's original deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but Hertha sporting manager Dieter Hoeness has tied him to new terms, saying on Monday night: "Falko Götz is an excellent coach and I very much enjoy working with him." Götz added: "It makes me very proud that the club trust me."

European ambitions
Götz first occupied the Hertha helm for the last three months of the 2001/02 campaign before spending nearly two seasons with TSV 1860 München. He began his second spell as Hertha boss in April 2004 and currently oversees a team lying fifth in the German Bundesliga.
