Tide refuses to turn for Kanouté

Sevilla FC striker Frédéric Kanouté will miss the second leg of his side's UEFA Cup semi-final tie against FC Schalke 04 after aggravating a calf injury.

Brave decision
The 28-year-old Mali international insisted on playing in last night's goalless draw in Gelsenkirchen despite only having recently recovered from an injury to his left calf, but was forced to leave the pitch after just 30 minutes as the troublesome muscle flared up again.

Calculated gamble
"I made my decision and took a risk but my leg didn't last the game," said Kanouté, who has been ruled out for between 14 and 20 days. "I don't think I will be able to play in the return leg. We could have won the match but then a draw is a fair result."
