The 30-year-old has spent six successful seasons in Switzerland, and has already played two league games this term and featured in Basel’s UEFA Cup first qualifying round first-leg match against FC Tobol Kostanay last week. Basel will take a 3-1 lead to Kazakhstan for Thursday's return. Chipperfield, capped 50 times, played all four of his country's games at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
