OB and Parma meet again

Odense BK will be hoping that history does not repeat itself as they play host to Parma FC for a second time in the UEFA Cup in their first Group D fixture.

The 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup winners Odense BK will be hoping that history does not repeat itself as they play host to Parma FC in their first UEFA Cup Group D fixture.

• The two sides met in the quarter-finals of the 1994/95 UEFA Cup, with the Italian side knocking out their Danish opponents 1-0 on aggregate en route to the first of their two UEFA Cup successes - they beat Juventus 2-1 on aggregate in the final.

• The first leg in Italy was settled by Gianfranco Zola's 49th-minute penalty, and Parma held on for a 0-0 draw in the second encounter in Denmark.

• Current Parma stars Luca Bucci and Fernando Couto played against OB back in 1994/95.

• Those two games mark the only occasions in the course of 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup winners OB's 61-match European history (22 wins, 13 draws and 26 defeats) that they have encountered Italian opponents.

• Parma are veterans of almost twice as many UEFA club competition games (115), winning the 1992/93 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, the 1993 UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Cups in 1994/95 and 1998/99.

• Their experience of Danish opposition is not that extensive, however, with only two other games against Superliga sides since that meeting with OB in 1994/95.

• They played Brøndby IF in the third round of the 2001/02 UEFA Cup, drawing 1-1 in the first leg at home before progressing with a 3-0 win in Denmark, with Patrick Mboma, Hidetoshi Nakata and Sabri Lamouchi scoring the goals. Lamouchi had also scored in the first leg.

• Spanish side CA Osasuna will host the Netherlands' SC Heerenveen in the day's other Group D fixture.
