• The two sides have never met in European competition.

• This is Nancy's first game in the UEFA Cup group stage this season.

• Wisła started their Group E campaign with a 2-1 defeat at home against Blackburn Rovers FC with two second-half goals cancelling out Mauro Cantoro's opener.

• Wisła coach Dragomir Okuka has recent experience of French opposition having seen his Serbia and Montenegro side beaten 2-0 by their French counterparts in the summer's 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals in Portugal.

• Novices in European competition, with just six appearances to their name (two wins, a draw and three defeats), and have never faced Polish opposition before.

• Wisła have played 75 European games (34 wins, 16 draws and 25 defeats), but surprisingly have never played against a French side.

• French and Polish sides have met 33 times in the European Champion Clubs' Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Cup.

• In total, the French side has won in 19 of those meetings with eight draws and six victories for the Polish sides.

• In France, the home side has won on eleven occasions, with five draws. Legia Warszawa recorded the lone Polish win on French soil when they overcame AS Saint-Etienne 1-0 in the second leg of a 1969/70 European Champion Clubs' Cup tie.

• Only one Polish player has ever played for Nancy, Ryszard Tarasiewicz who scored five goals for the club in the early 1990s.

• Blackburn take on FC Basel 1893 in Matchday 2's other Group E game.
