OB double Danish delight

Denmark is celebrating a splendid week in European football after Odense BK followed FC København's lead and picked up a great result away from home.

Denmark is celebrating a splendid week in European football after Odense BK followed FC København's lead in picking up a great result on Thursday.

Splendid result
On Wednesday, København made the headlines with a 1-0 win against Manchester United FC in the UEFA Champions League. On Thursday, it was OB's turn to shine with the Funen side producing a sensational result of their own as they won 2-0 at SC Heerenveen in UEFA Cup Group D to make up for a 2-1 home defeat against Parma FC on Matchday 1.

Lekic thrilled
Radivoje Lekic was the hero, scoring twice in the Netherlands for Bruce Rioch's side. "I promised to score if I got the opportunities, so I am delighted to have scored twice tonight," said the 25-year-old Lekic who had not previously found the target for OB since joining from Spanish side Xerez CF in the summer. "We played a fantastic match, but in general we are playing well at the moment and we stick together - on and off the pitch. People can see that we fight for each other and believe in each other."

Laursen proud
Defender Ulrik Laursen would agree with that assessment. "This was an extremely professional performance by all the lads," said the 30-year-old, who signed a three-year extension at OB two days before the match. "Our midfield was very consistent tonight and then we got a striker working. That just goes to prove how important it is to get a striker started scoring goals!"

Defensive apes
Laursen and his central defensive partner Anders Møller Christensen received glowing praise from winger Martin Borre, who said: "We were playing against a good team today, but our two big gorillas in the centre of defence simply cleared everything. It is great to have such players in the team!"

Statement of intent
"We have proved that we are not just a team you can walk over," added former Hibernian FC and Celtic FC defender Laursen. "This result will earn us respect but we know that we will have to make the same kind of effort in our next match." OB take on RC Lens at home on Matchday 3 and finish their Group D campaign at CA Osasuna on Matchday 4.
