AZ Alkmaar striker Moussa Dembélé has signed a contract extension keeping him with the Dutch title chasers until summer 2011.
Young international
The 19-year-old Belgian has scored five goals in 24 matches in his first season with the Eredivisie's third-placed club, following a summer move from Willem II. The one-time KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen trainee has already made seven appearances for his country, scoring once.
European double
Dembélé's deal comes a day after AZ secured a spot in the UEFA Cup Round of 16 by defeating Fenerbahçe SK on away goals. The forward has featured in all eight of AZ's European games this term and struck twice in their 5-2 win at Grasshopper-Club in November. Coach Louis van Gaal said: "Moussa is still young but has already played a lot this season - more than he had expected. He is an important player for AZ and fits in very well. AZ is a family club and that suits him."
