Borowski back on Bremen sidelines

Tim Borowski's injury-hit season has been interrupted again with the midfielder set to miss Werder Bremen's UEFA Cup semi-final due to strained knee ligaments.

Tim Borowski's injury-interrupted season has been punctuated again after the Werder Bremen midfielder strained ligaments in his left knee during his first league appearance for two months.

'Terrible luck'
Borowski lasted only 51 minutes of the Bundesliga title chasers' 2-0 win at BV Borussia Dortmund on Sunday after jarring the ligaments and is set to miss the UEFA Cup semi-final against RCD Espanyol, to be played over two legs on 26 April and 3 May. "It would be terrible luck if Tim was going to be out for a long time again," said Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf.

Frustrating campaign
For German international Borowski, this as yet unspecified absence will be his third time on the sidelines this campaign. The 26-year-old sat out Bremen's matches in October with an injury to the same left leg, before tearing ligaments in his left knee against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on 25 February. He took advantage of that second lay-off to have surgery for an unrelated but persistent groin problem, then recovered to make his comeback in last week's 4-1 UEFA Cup quarter-final triumph against AZ Alkmaar – marking the occasion with a goal.
