'El Rifle' reaches a perfect ten

Walter Pandiani has taken his 2006/07 UEFA Cup tally into double figures and will fancy his chances again when RCD Espanyol go to SL Benfica on Thursday.

Quickfire strike
Despite rattling off nine goals in ten matches before the visit of Fernando Santos's side last Thursday, the 30-year-old had to make do with a place on the substitutes' bench for the match. However, Pandiani made up for lost time by stretching his tally to ten, heading in Albert Riera's pinpoint cross just five minutes after his 53rd-minute introduction.

Two-goal lead
The Uruguay striker, nicknamed 'El Rifle', is now two goals clear of FC Dinamo 1948 Bucaresti's Claudiu Niculescu, who no longer features in the competition, and three clear of AZ Alkmaar's Shota Arveladze and Dimitar Berbatov of Tottenham Hotspur FC, who both failed to score on Matchday 10. The only other mover in the top ten was Tottenham's Robbie Keane, whose 68th-second strike against holders Sevilla FC took him to five goals. Only goals from the first round onwards in this season's UEFA Cup count toward the top scorers' totals.
