Unlucky turn for Ajax's Luque

AFC Ajax will have to do without attacker Alberto Luque as they look to defend a 1-0 lead in the second leg of their tie against NK Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.

The 29-year-old Spaniard scored his first two goals since joining the club from Newcastle United FC in a 6-1 victory against VVV Venlo on Saturday but overstretched a groin muscle at the top of his left leg while putting the finishing touch to his second. A scan has revealed the extent of the problem and he has been ruled out for the next four weeks. Captain Jaap Stam is expected to be fit again for the game at the Amsterdam ArenA but Thomas Vermaelen, Edgar Davids, Leonardo and Nicolae Mitea are still on the long-term injured list.
