Blanc takes Bordeaux to Vienna

Laurent Blanc will revisit the scene of a 1993 victory with France as his FC Girondins de Bordeaux team travel to play FK Austria Wien in Group H.

• The match was a 1-0 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifying win for Les Bleus against Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium, the venue for this fixture. Jean-Pierre Papin scored the only goal.

• Bordeaux and Austria Wien have never met in European competition.

• Austria are playing in their first group stage game of the season while Bordeaux won their opener 2-1 against Galatasaray AS - their 50th victory in 93 UEFA Cup games.

• Austria have played nine games against French sides in UEFA club competition, winning two, drawing three and losing four. In the five home games, they have won two, drawn two and lost one.

• Marouane Chamakh, who scored Bordeaux's winner against Galatasaray, warmed up for that game with a trip back to his native Morocco where he was invited, along with other famous Moroccan sportsmen, to dine with King Mohammed VI and French president Nicolas Sarkozy.

• The Vienna side endured a dismal group stage campaign last season, losing all four of their games, with current coach Georg Zellhofer replacing Frenkie Schinkels midway through.
