German international midfielder Simon Rolfes has extended his contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen until summer 2010.

Important contribution
Rolfes, whose deal was due to expire in 2008, has committed his future to the Bundesliga club where he has become a key player since arriving from TSV Alemannia Aachen two summers ago. The 25-year-old, a former Werder Bremen reserve, has scored ten goals in 75 league games for the BayArena side already.

Coach's praise
"I am very glad that Simon has chosen to stay with us," said Leverkusen coach Michael Skibbe. "He is a cornerstone of our team in midfield and is becoming more and more of an influence for us. He is very helpful in developing our young side." Leverkusen, the 1988 UEFA Cup winners, will face Toulouse FC, FC Spartak Moskva, AC Sparta Praha and FC Zürich in Group E of this season's tournament.
