Stijnen saves
Rosenborg striker Steffen Iversen had the best of what few chances there were in Trondheim, the Norwegian international going close to breaking the deadlock in the first half but impressive Club Brugge goalkeeper Stijn Stijnen was equal to the effort – as he was all night. Both sides will look to create more in their coming fixtures against Valencia CF, AS Saint-Etienne and FC København.

Opportunities
The hosts got an early sight of the Brugge goal when Didier Konan Ya drilled in a shot from the edge of the area that was punched to safety by Stijnen after two minutes. Konan threatened again seven minutes later yet the keeper plucked his effort out of the air. Wesley Sonck had the Belgian visitors' first opportunity with a strike from distance that forced Rune Jarstein to make a fine stop, tipping the ball around the upright. Iversen might have done better with a more inviting opening in the 35th minute, his powerful attempt being blocked by Stijnen.

No way through
Little changed after the interval. Rosenborg caused panic just past the hour when Marek Sapara's corner was met by the head of Konan but the ever-alert Stijnen made the parry. Brugge hit back moments later, as Nabil Dirar's long-range drive required Jarstein to deflect the ball to safety. Iversen had Rosenborg's final chance 13 minutes from time but Stijnen dealt with his effort from the edge of the box. Brugge might even have snatched it at the death as the well-placed Jeroen Simaeys headed wide when he met substitute Ivan Leko's corner deep into stoppage time.
