UEFA Europa League contenders Getafe CF have moved to fill the void left by departing forward Roberto Soldado by signing striker Ángel Arizmendi from Real Zaragoza on a reported free transfer.

Having lost Soldado – scorer of 16 Liga goals last term – to UEFA Champions League hopefuls Valencia CF, Getafe coach Michel has secured a deal for the 26-year-old Arizmendi. The former RC Deportivo La Coruña and Valencia player has agreed terms on a six-year contract at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Arizmendi, who struck 15 times in 70 league games during two seasons with Zaragoza, is Getafe's third summer recruit following the arrivals of midfielder Borja Fernández and centre-back Iván Marcano. He was capped once by Spain in February 2007. His first task will be to help his new side negotiate a UEFA Europa League play-off in August.
