Surgery sidelines Dortmund full-back Owomoyela

Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund do not expect to have full-back Patrick Owomoyela back in training until January after the 31-year-old underwent surgery for an Achilles problem.

Borussia Dortmund full-back Patrick Owomoyela will not play again in 2010, with the former Germany defender electing to undergo surgery to resolve an Achilles tendon problem after non-invasive treatment failed.

The 31-year-old has played in five Bundesliga games this season for the German league leaders and two more in the UEFA Europa League group stage, but has not featured in a competitive fixture since coming on for the final 15 minutes of his side's 1-0 Group J home defeat against Sevilla FC on 30 September. He is now expected to be back in training in January. Dortmund lie third , and host FC Karpaty Lviv on 2 December.
