Valencia CF have signed Javier Fuego on a three-year deal following the end of his contract with fellow Liga side Rayo Vallecano de Madrid.

The 29-year-old scored one goal in 104 league appearances for Rayo – with whom he gained promotion to the top flight in 2011 – over three years before his deal with the club expired this summer. A product of Real Sporting de Gijón's youth set-up, Javier Fuego has also enjoyed spells with Levante UD and RC Recrativo de Huelva.

The central midfielder has drawn comparisons with former Valencia star David Albelda. He teams up with recently appointed coach Miroslav Djukić and new team-mate Míchel ahead of the Spanish side's participation in the UEFA Europa League group stage.
