Tottenham Hotspur FC midfielder Andros Townsend has signed a new contract with the club a week after bursting on to the international scene with England.

The 22-year-old has penned a four-year deal with the UEFA Europa League contenders having started six of Tottenham's seven league games this term. His form in the Premier League prompted a call-up from Roy Hodgson, which Townsend marked with a man-of-the-match performance and an outstanding debut goal in England's 4-1 win against Montenegro last Friday.

A former youth team prospect at White Hart Lane, Townsend gained first-team experience during nine loan spells before cementing a place in André Villas-Boas' starting lineup this term. The Tottenham manager said: "We're very proud of what he has done. We have seen him play with so much confidence and determination. He's really set his place in the team for Tottenham and for his country. Whenever he's been called up by myself or Roy he's given great performances."

Tottenham have won both of their UEFA Europa League Group K matches and could qualify for the knockout stages with a victory at FC Sheriff on Thursday.
