More than 30 years after their sole European trophy success to date, Eintracht Frankfurt are once again impressing on the continent.

Eintracht won the 1980 UEFA Cup courtesy of victory against domestic rivals VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the final. This season they are mixing it in the UEFA Europa League; having topped Group F, they now face FC Porto in the round of 32. Perhaps the most remarkable moment of their campaign so far came when a record 12,000 fans travelled to see them qualify at FC Girondins de Bordeaux – a sure sign of the expectation at the club.

"It's been a while now; the UEFA Cup title was in 1980," said Eintracht defender Sebastian Jung. "That was a long time ago, but you can see that the fans want the team to play in Europe. You can see it especially in the home games, with the atmosphere, and also the fans that travel to away matches – it's incredible. We are very happy to be playing in Europe, as much as the fans and the whole of Frankfurt are."
