After 13 years in the Italian game David Pizarro has exchanged Serie A for the Premier League by agreeing to join Manchester City FC on loan from AS Roma until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has taken the opportunity to work again with City boss Roberto Mancini after struggling to get first-team football this term under Roma coach Luis Enrique – together with Mancini, Pizarro won the Serie A title and Coppa Italia at FC Internazionale Milano in 2005/06.

The Chilean international, who has been capped 36 times, first arrived in Italy in 1999, signing for Udinese Calcio from CD Santiago Wanderers. He enjoyed six campaigns with the Friulani before transferring to Roma in 2006 following a successful season with Inter. Pizarro made 148 top-flight appearances for the Giallorossi, scoring nine goals and helping them lift the Coppa Italia twice.

After finishing third in their UEFA Champions League group, Premier League leaders City have moved into the UEFA Europa League and will face FC Porto in the round of 32, travelling to Portugal for the first leg on 16 February before hosting the holders six days later.
