PAOK break Swiss hearts

Grasshopper-Club 1-1 FC PAOK Thessaloniki (Agg: 2-3)PAOK win through in injury time.

A Dimitrios Markos goal four minutes into injury time gave FC PAOK Thessaloniki a 1-1 draw against Grasshopper-Club in their UEFA Cup second round second-leg match in Zurich and a dramatic 3-2 aggregate win.

Nervous opening
Neither team created any meaningful chances in a tense opening period with both desperate not to give any quarter with the game finely balanced after the first leg. Grasshopper, though, did enough to shade the first half and after Richard Nuñez and Ricardo Cabanas both brought saves from Kiriakos Tohouroglou in the PAOK goal, they went ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Tararache opener
The Nationalliga A leaders looked on course for a place in the last 32 when Romanian midfield player Mihai Tararache struck, his goal meaning the Swiss side were now on course to advance on the away goals rule with the scores level at 2-2.

Cruel finish
However, when Grasshopper failed to properly clear a corner deep into injury time, at the end of a closely contested second period, the home team were punished in the cruellest possible way, Markos pouncing to the delight of the battling Greek side and the heavy Greek representation in the estimated 6,600 crowd.

Deflected goal
The defender's 25-metre volley deflected off a home player to leave Fabrice Borer stranded a mere 20 seconds from time, stunning the Swiss side.
