High five for Slavia

SK Slavia Praha made light work of qualifying for the second round of the UEFA Cup with a convincing 5-1 win over R. Excelsior Mouscron.

Czechs in mean mood
The Czech side had allowed a two-goal lead to slip in Belgium to draw the first leg 2-2, but they were in no mood to repeat the feat back in Prague - putting the game beyond doubt within the first eight minutes.

Early goals
Striker Tomáš Došek opened the scoring as early as the third minute, latching on to a low cross from Stepan Vachousek to finish from close range. Five minutes later the home side doubled their advantage and this time it was Patrick Gedeon cutting in from the right flank who delivered a cross for Karel Pitak to sweep the ball into the net.

Slavia, who had been content to sit back and concede possession, further extended their lead in the 38th minute. Gedeon was once again the instigator, floating a cross to the near post for Došek to stoop to head in his second goal of the game.

Early second-half chances
The second period started in much similiar fashion, with Slavia creating a number of early goalscoring opportunities. Their fourth arrived in the 53rd minute when Vachousek cleverly drew goalkeeper Franky Vandendriessche from his line before deftly lifting the ball into the net.

Slavia hit five
Slavia thereafter relied on a series of counterattacks and on 81 minutes substitute Adauto rounded-off a slick passage of interplay to finish from three metres out. 

Late consolation 
Mouscron did manage to claim a late consolation goal, but even then it took the intervention of a Slavia player to open their account. A corner from the right on 84 minutes was inadvertently diverted into his own net by Martin Müller.
