Joaquín takes Málaga leave for Fiorentina

"I have been wanting to play in Italy for a while," said former Spain winger Joaquín after joining ACF Fiorentina on a three-year deal, moving from Málaga CF for an undisclosed fee.

ACF Fiorentina have signed former Spanish international Joaquín from Málaga CF for an undisclosed fee.

The clubs reached an agreement on Wednesday and 24 hours later the winger penned a three-year contract to become the Viola's second summer acquisition after forward Olexandr Yakovenko.

The 31-year-old – a Copa del Rey winner with both Real Betis Balompié and Valencia CF during his career – had an impressive season with a Málaga side that reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, scoring eight goals in 45 games in all competitions.

"I have chosen Fiorentina because I like their vision and their football philosophy," Joaquín, who earned the last of his 51 Spain caps in November 2007, explained. "I have been wanting to play in Italy for a while – it will be a great experience. At Fiorentina I already know Borja Valero and Giuseppe Rossi who are both great players."

Vincenzo Montella's Fiorentina will enter the UEFA Europa League play-offs after finishing fourth in Serie A in 2012/13.
