Wigan Athletic FC have continued to strengthen ahead of their maiden UEFA Europa League group stage campaign with the signing of winger James McClean from Sunderland AFC for an undisclosed fee.
Irish international McClean put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the FA Cup holders and said: "I'm delighted it's all been completed and I can say I'm a Wigan Athletic player." The 24-year-old had joined Sunderland from Irish Premier Division side Derry City FC in 2011 and scored seven goals in 59 Premier League appearances.
McClean, who has featured 13 times for the Republic of Ireland having made his debut against the Czech Republic in February 2012, added: "This is a fantastic club and after speaking with the manager I can't wait to meet the team, start training and hopefully make my debut very soon with the aim of helping us back to the Premier League."
Wigan lifted the 2012/13 FA Cup to qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage and await the draw in Monaco on 30 August.
