Fresh Benjani blow hits Auxerre

AJ Auxerre striker Benjamin Mwaruwari is facing a further three months on the sidelines.

Fresh setback
Benjani picked up the injury playing for Zimbabwe against the Seychelles, but after several months of rest he resumed training three weeks ago. However, the problem resurfaced this week when the 25-year-old returned from international duty. He has now been advised by a specialist to take a prolonged rest or undergo surgery.

'Rest or surgery'
"The medical opinion we received this week was that he has a choice of taking three months' rest or undergoing surgery," said Auxerre coach Guy Roux. "We are likely to advise him to have the operation."

Finely poised
The news comes as a blow to the French club who drew 0-0 with FC Utrecht in the UEFA Cup second round last week. Benjani will now miss the second leg at the Stade de l'Abbé Deschamps on 27 November.
